Public transport fares will be adjusted by 7.0% under the 2026 Fare Review Exercise. While the fare formula allows for an increase of up to 14.7%, the Public Transport Council has decided to grant less than half of the maximum allowable fare adjustment to help ease the impact on commuters.

The adjustment comes amid sustained increases in operating costs, including the recent surge in energy prices due to the Middle East situation. By taking a measured approach, PTC seeks to balance the need to keep public transport affordable with ensuring that fare revenues can support the continued operation and maintenance of the transport network.

The Government will be providing an additional $200 million in subsidies to cover the cost of deferring the remaining 7.7%-points of allowable fare adjustment. The remaining deferred fare adjustment will be considered in future fare reviews, taking into account fare formula output for the year as well as various social and economic factors.
